Forex transformer

Residents of Ikola Ilumo in the Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area of Lagos State have lamented poor electricity supply to the community by Ikeja Electric. They claimed that the transformer serving the community was old and unable to carry the power load, forex transformer that it was installed in the 80s during the administration of a former Lagos State Governor, Mike Akhigbe. They said although the power company agreed that the community needed another transformer, it did not install a new one.

The residents spoke in a letter addressed to the Business Manager, Ikeja Electric. The letter, dated January 16, 2018, was signed by the Ifelodun Community Development Association Chairman, Mr. As you are probably aware, Ikola Ilumo residents have not been enjoying electricity supply as and when due. Apart from the fact that power supply is so irregular, we are also regularly given electricity bills that seem to suggest that we have power for an entire month.

In other words, the power supply we enjoy is far below the electricity bills we are compelled to pay on a monthly basis. We have never failed to complain about this to Ikeja Electric. However, the explanation that the firm has given for the abysmal power supply to our area is that our transformer is bad, as if it is our duty to buy and install transformers to service our electricity need. The letter noted that though residents had requested the firm to issue them prepaid meters, the company had not done so.

The residents also alleged high-handedness by some of the company’s officials. The letter was acknowledged by the customer care of the Akowonjo Business Unit. The Head of Corporate Communications, Ikeja Electric, Felix Ofulue, said the firm would look into the issues. If they have issues with bills, they should see their business district manager and I am sure that will be addressed. There is nobody in this business that will ask you to provide a transformer for yourself. It is actually most of the CDAs who come up with such suggestions.

Apart from the fact that the request for transformers is massive because of rapid development, it is a gradual thing. But I do also hope that they are paying their bills regularly because it is through such payments we upgrade our infrastructure. There are certain communities that are not paying and they expect you to meet these obligations. How do you do that when you don’t have funds? Everybody is asking for prepaid meters.

The issue is that the economy is slowing down the rate at which we roll out prepaid meters. This is not peculiar to us. The way the prepaid metres are designed, it is free and you can actually request them. The business has a rollout plan in clusters and phases. When it gets to their turn, they will get it.
